| hdbaddog55 | Have purchased sss muffler. Expect delivery any day. Also have purchased spilt/dual exhaust tips,which have already arrived. Does the sss muffler by Jay sound better with the factory (resonator exhaust tips), or, by going with custom (non-resonator) exhaust tips? Would really appreciate input from those POA members who are running the sss muffler.Thanks..BADDOG.... |
| CWatsonJr | I have the stock tips but took out the baffles. I think it sounds better with the baffles removed. Love that SSS... you will enjoy the new sound verrrrrrrry much

| YELLER CAT | We are approaching the 200 mark in SSS sales since introduction and all the feedback I have received is that the Cat Owners prefer the baffles/resonators removed. The only exception is a single owner that re-installs these baffles/resonators when pulling his tag-along trailer for long distances... then when his journey is over, the baffles/resonators are easily removed. Reason is that the "sound" bounces off the front on the tag-along trailer and this, when cruise is set for long distances, could be slightly annoying to some. For me personally... I took baffles/resonators out long before the SSS, simply for the cosmetic appeal. The Prowler is an American Street Rod and in my opinion it's appearance was compromised with a Japanese motorcycle looking exhaust tip. GOOD LUCK with your new SSS Prowler muffler and I know when you get it installed, let the "cats" warm up, holding 2nd gear from 3100 RPM and higher, you will quickly discover how the name Sweet, Smooth & SASSY (SSS) came about. Will let you know how things turn out (sound). Will post a picture for rest of POA members. I think my cat will look way cool with 4 slash tips poking out the back end, instead of the factory 2. | YELLER CAT | Now go have some real fun!!! Enter a viaduct, bridge overpass, etc. in First or Second gear @ 3100+ RPM... then pedal to the metal! The pigeons get almost excited as you. | Starpilot | Hi. I think I would like to remove the baffles in my muffler tips. but not sure how. Is it difficult? and does anyone have any photos by chance? Thanks - Lou Also - after I try that, I think I will likely get the SSS muffler and the xpipe. I jut got a lift and would like to do this myself if others could confirm that it is a relatively straight forward job. Thanks again - Lou |
| MDProwler | Locate the one pop rivet on the underside of the tailpipe. Drill this out and pull the resonator out. If it's tight grab it with visegrips and tap it out. 20 minute job ------------------

| ed monahan | Tips stay on the car. Make sure you drill all the way thru the rivet and make sure the rivet falls out of the hole before you try to yank them out. Sometimes a little piece will hang up and not let you pull it out. You can use a punch to push into the tail pipe. |
| MDProwler | Ed, your right, there are several rivets. I seem to have a case of CRS that gets worse every year. |

| Black Tie 161 | I think I remember drilling out 2 rivets each tailpipe....I used a dremel and cut them off....then popped them in the pipe. CAUTION! I had to bang the baffles in a bit to loosen them , and while that worked great for one, the other one took me over an hour to remove. I think I drove it a bit too far into the pipe, but it was so much tighter than the other side to begin with. Spraying some WD-40 helped.... |
| Gene | I removed mine and found you would need a angle head drill to remove top rivet.I used a sharp small chisle and one lick under each rivet head does the job.Then take a coat hanger end to push remaining part inside.Clamped a hold of insert with vise grips twisted and pull.Probable total time 20 min.Hope this may help.
